The abattoir in Mohács is one of Hungary’s most up-to-date pig slaughterhouses. The abattoir, of a total floor area of 26,000 m2, functions as a slaughtering, boning, cutting and packaging plant, with a workforce of nearly 700. The use of the most up-to-date technology enables a slaughter capacity of 1 million pigs a year, that is, 4,000 normal pigs and 400 sows per shift. The plant’s daily packaging capacity is 150 tonnes. Production is adapted to market demand; accordingly, manufacturing processes can be flexibly adjusted to various market situations and the plant’s high value added production enables the company to maximise the utilisation of market opportunities.

MCS Vágóhíd Zrt. covers its input material requirement predominantly from domestic sources. The bulk of live pigs is provided by Bonafarm Mezőgazdaság’s own farms and those of its network of integrated pig producer partners, ensuring that the plant in Mohács produces only traceable pork of reliable quality. About 15% of all pigs slaughtered at the abattoir are premium-category fattened pigs, born and raised at plants of Bonafarm Mezőgazdaság whose GlobalG.A.P. certificates prove the plants’ high animal welfare status: particular attention is paid to the welfare and health of the sows, piglets and fattening pigs in a stress-free environment.

The cooperation between Bonafarm Group’s pig division and the abattoir MCS Vágóhíd lead to joint development projects which enabled high value added carcass meat products – whose value and quality relied on the three pillars of fully GMO-free feeds throughout the whole lives of the animals, responsible use of antibiotics and higher animal welfare standards – to be offered through retail outlets from the end of 2018. The abattoir in Mohács is also the main raw material supplier of Bonafarm Group’s member Pick Szeged Zrt., a company with a long tradition, therefore the pork cuts processed at Mohács find their way to the dinner tables of thousands of Hungarian families in the form of processed meat products as well.
